On the Land

As well as providing lots of different water based activities, we are able to provide a variety of land based learning opportunities.

Locations

We use a range of locations depending on their suitability for the sessions and the needs of participants. All locations are fully risk assessed and are chosen to provide the best possible experience. We have access to a range of woodland, coastal and moorland areas. We can also lead sessions on privately owned sites.

Our woodland sites are chosen for their varied features such as broad-leaf or coniferous trees; flat, accessible terrain; interesting flora and fauna; toileting facilities; parking facilities and location.  We have permission to have fires on some of these sites so participants can explore the benefits of fire-lighting and cooking activities.   Experiences that take place in natural environments help to create a sense of oneness with nature, a sense of calm tranquility and a sense of place.

Health and Wellbeing

We believe in the health benefits of natural spaces for both physical and mental health and well-being. Activities with Beyond The Wave, provide opportunities for people to create connections with nature and to each other. This helps to form a feeling of belonging and community spirit.  We deliver a variety of sessions that cater for specific groups and/or needs.

Forest School

Forest School is learner led, experiential learning which takes place over a number of consecutive sessions.  These are delivered in natural environments largely, but not exclusively, woodland.  Participants are encouraged to try new things, explore their own learning, be creative and adventurous and build relationships with their peers and with the environment. In the words of Sir David Attenborough, "No one will protect what they don't care about and no one will care about what they have never experienced."  Participants have the opportunity to repeat activities, enabling them to embed their learning, practise new skills and develop old ones, help others through peer to peer teaching and take responsibility for their progress and development.  Forest School promotes independence and the ability to risk assess in a wide range of situations.  At Beyond The Wave, we follow the six guiding principles of Forest School as stated by the Forest School Association.
